Cant really decide what the image depicts. Two houses, two soldiers with helmets. But the feeling it conveys to me is one of doom and fear. The image is a mix of glass and shadows! And some painting and retouching!

It can definitely be seen as two helmets, but I think basically it's about the mood - doom and fear just as you said. It captures that feeling really well!
